Independence Memorial Park

In 1997, Cardinal collaborated with the City of Independence’s recreation department and developed a master plan for the creation of Memorial Park (formerly Shaw Park), a multi-use recreational amenity for the City of Independence. Master plan highlights included a soccer field, an amphitheater, a senior center, nature trails, playground, and a public parking lot. Since the soccer field was being located on a hilly terrain, significant engineering design and grading was required to construct the field. Cardinal developed the master plan, designed the soccer field, parking lot, and nature trail system, and handled all bidding and contract administration duties. Cardinal also designed a public services building in Sterling Skaggs Park, a renovation of the former Huntington Bank Building into the Independence City Building, and various streetscape improvements throughout the City.

Development of this park has closely followed Cardinal’s original master plan. The soccer fields and bike trails have been created, as has been a new senior center. In addition, to the master plan work, a new city building and firehouse overlooks these facilities from its position at the intersection of Kentucky Route 17 and Delaware Crossing.
